Lawyers

Shel Laven, a Calgary native, received his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1982 and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1983.

Shel’s practice focuses on Wills & Estates and Real Estate. He is a past chair of the South Alberta Canadian Bar Association Wills & Trusts practice section and is currently on the executive of both the Elder Law and Real Estate practice sections. Shel is also a member of the Calgary chapter of the Society of Trust and Estate and Practitioners (STEP), and is a founding member of the Alberta Society of Collaborative Estate and Trusts Lawyers (SCETYL).  Shel speaks regularly at continuing legal education sessions, and has taught for many years at the Alberta Law Society Bar Admission Course.

Blair Laven was also born in Calgary, received his law degree from the University of Wales in 1986 and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1987.

Blair’s practice almost exclusively in the area of Family Law. Blair is a past chair of the South Alberta Canadian Bar Association Family Law section and is a founding member of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta Dispute Resolution Officer Program. Blair is a co-recipient of the Alberta Family Mediation Society John Haynes Memorial Award for his contribution to the field of family mediation in Alberta. Blair has spoken at continuing legal education conferences and regularly taught at the Chambers Advocacy program at the Alberta Law Society Bar Admission Course.
